Your Due Season is Coming

Galatians 6:9 “And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.”

Doing good is such a blessed thing. It’s such an inspiring, fulfilling, honourable, helpful thing to do unto others. Surely Paul should have no need to admonish us to never stop doing it. Yet here he is, telling us Christians, that we should never give up doing what is second nature to us. Why?

Because as well as inspiring, fulfilling, honourable and blessed, it can also be demanding, tiring, both physically and emotionally. It can be taken advantage of. Your ‘doing good’ can be used and abused. At times your ‘doing good’ goes unnoticed, unrecognized, unappreciated, or simply taken for granted.

There will be people who will drain you, suck the very life out of you and when you’ve nothing left to give, they walk away as if you never existed. There will be people whom you will spend endless hours and energy, and perhaps even finances on, who will turn against you and treat you badly. You will be tempted to say, “Why bother?” “I’ll never do that again.” “People only want what they can get out of you, so why make the effort?”

Here’s why. “…for in due season you shall reap if you do not lose heart.”

No one did more good than Jesus. No one reached out to more people than Jesus. No one gave more time, energy and commitment to people than Jesus. But where were they when He was being tried and crucified?

They all forsook Him and fled. Where were the all the men and women He healed and delivered? Where were all the people who lined the streets the week before and shouted their Hosannas? Calvary, for Jesus, became literally a God-forsaken place. “My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?” But even on that cross He never stopped doing good. He forgave His executioners. He pardoned the thief and gave him eternal life. He assigned John to look after Mary His mother. Did He reap in due season? Absolutely, you and I, and untold millions like us, are the fruit of His harvest He reaped. Your due season is coming.

Galatians 6:9 “And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.”

1 Corinthians 15:58 “…knowing that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.”

Hebrews 11:6 “God is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.”

Psalm 58:11 “…surely there is a reward for the righteous.”

Mark 9:41 “Even if you give someone a cup of cold water in His name you will not lose your reward.”

But notice that all these rewards are contingent upon two things.

1. Our due season.  2. Us not losing heart. One is in God’s hands (the due season) the other is in our hands (us not losing heart)

Hebrews 10:36 “For you have need of patience, that, after you have done the will of God, you might receive the promise.”

Psalm 37:7 “Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently for Him…”

God has a due season for you. But you must not lose heart.
