God Has Feelings Too

Hands up who remembers Star Trek? On the Starship Enterprise there was a crew of various nationalities, all of whom were experts in their field. However, one of them was an alien from the planet Vulcan, a certain Mr. Spock, played by Leonard Nimroy. Spock was terribly clever, articulate, highly efficient, but he had one serious flaw, he was completely emotionless. He was devoid of any natural emotions that humans have. He was never angry, sad or glad. He never cried or laughed. He didn’t feel sympathy or empathy, that was beyond him. He was calculating, logical, analytical, detached and dispassionate. He had no intensity, no love, no compassion and no warmth. Just mechanical and machine like. Too many people think God is just like Mr. Spock. He’s good to have on the flight deck when things go wrong, because he’s cool under pressure. He won’t panic. He’ll look at things logically and dispassionately, and won’t act irrationally. He’ll punch in your problem into His cosmic computer and give you an analysis of the situation, but remain aloof and detached from the outcome. But a God like Mr. Spock will never make a great Captain.

He doesn’t know how you feel, and he can never feel like you, because he’s from another world. A world very different from ours. But the God of the Bible, our God, is nothing like Mr. Spock. He is not aloof, emotionless, dispassionate, uncaring or without feeling. Even though He is from another world, yet He entered into our world. He didn’t just visit our world, but He became like one of us. He became incarnate. He took upon Himself human flesh. He literally clothed Himself with humanity. He walked this earth and sat where we sat. Although He Himself was perfect, yet, as the hymn says, “He took our sins and our sorrows and made them His very own.” So, GOD HAS FEELINGS TOO.

Heb. 4:15 (NLT) “This High Priest of ours understands our weaknesses, for He faced all of the same temptations as we do, yet He did not sin.”

Or do you think God has no delight in His church, His bride, worship and service? Jesus was God incarnate. God in human flesh. He felt anger at the money changers, sadness at the grave of His friend Lazarus, and gladness at the miracles. He felt the pain of rejection, and forsakenness.  So, GOD HAS FEELINGS TOO.

Zeph. 3:17 The Lord rejoices over us.

Jer.32:41 “...Yes, I will rejoice over them to do them good...”

Deut.30:9 “...For the Lord will again rejoice over you for good as He rejoiced over your fathers.”

God delights in you.

Micah 7:18 “Who is a God like You, pardoning iniquity and passing over the transgressions of the remnant of His heritage? He does not retain His anger forever, because He delights in mercy/loving kindness”

Isaiah 62:4 “...for the Lord delights in you...”

God is pleased with you.

Heb. 11:6 & 13:16 “But do not forget to do good and to share, for with such sacrifices God is well pleased”

God takes pleasure in you.

Ps. 16:11 “You will show me the path of life; in Your presence is fullness of joy; at Your right hand are pleasures for evermore.”

Psalm 149:1-4 “Praise the Lord! Sing to the Lord a new song, and His praise in the assembly of the saints. Let Israel rejoice in their Maker; Let the children of Zion be joyful in their King. Let them praise His name with the dance; let them sing praises to Him with the timbrel and the harp. For the Lord takes pleasure in His people…”

So, GOD HAS FEELINGS TOO.
